Research
The Chair of Molecular Nutritional Medicine investigates the influence of nutrition on the regulation of the energy balance. Regular energy supply through food is essential for the survival of humans and animals. Our body can keep the absorption and storage of energy in balance with energy consumption with amazing precision. Complex regulatory processes are involved in this physiological peak performance. Information from the various organ systems is collected and processed in the brain. Fatty tissue plays a central role in these processes.
The following topics are the focus of our research activities:
- Nutrition and energy balance
- Hunger and Saturation
- Fat metabolism
- Brown fat tissue in humans - more than just a heating organ
- Biochemical mechanisms of thermogenesis
- Molecular mechanisms of fat cell development.
