Estela is an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow and comes from the Universidad de Oviedo, Spain.
In her PostDoc time at the TUM, Estela will work on elucidating resistance mechanisms of cancer cells against molecular tumour therapies.
Resistance is an important clinical issue in the management of cancer patients. It is often unclear why some patients respond to molecular therapy while other do not.
Using phospho-proteomics and advanced quantitative mass spectrometry, Estela will compare kinases and their substrates expressed in cancer cells which are either susceptible or resistant to treatment with kinase inhibitors.
This data will lead to the identification of proteins or pathways that are responsible for the observed response - or indeed lack thereof.
Eventually, the information discovered in this project may lead to a better stratification of cancer patients so that the right therapy may be given to the right person.
